Shutter Cable

Eletronic schutter cable for cameras

High-quality cameras (eg SLR, Canon G11, etc.) usually have an input for a remote trigger.

A trigger cable for these cameras can be easily built, which can be controlled by the FlightControl.

Where to buy: Shop-Link

Set

The set consists of:

  • A board with optocouplers and LEDs
  • A black cable with 90° 2,5mm jack
  • A two-core cable for connection to the flight control
  • Transparent shrink tube

  • Red wire: black cable labeled " In- "
  • Black cable Version I: blue and white on " Out+ "; Yellow to " Out- "
  • Black cable Version II: red and white on " Out+ "; Yellow to " Out- "
  • Black cable Version III: red and white on " Out+ "; Black to " Out- "

Assignment of the cable (Version I)

  • Yellow: GND
  • Blue: focus (when connecting from blue to yellow)
  • White: Trigger (when connecting from blue to yellow)

In the ShutterCable blue and white are combined. So the camera gets the instruction to focus and release at the same time.

Assignment of the cable (Version II)

  • Yellow: GND
  • White: focus (when connecting from blue to yellow)
  • Red: Trigger (when connecting from blue to yellow)

In the ShutterCable red and white are combined. So the camera gets the instruction to focus and release at the same time.

Assignment of the cable (Version III)

  • Black: GND
  • White: focus (when connecting from blue to yellow)
  • Red: Trigger (when connecting from blue to yellow)

In the ShutterCable red and white are combined. So the camera gets the instruction to focus and release at the same time.

Connect to the FlightControl

The cable is connected to the transistor outputs (top row of SV2):

http://gallery.mikrokopter.de/main.php/v/tech/SchutterCable_FC_001.jpg.html

The outputs Out1 and Out2 can be used.

/!\ The red wire of the cable is always in the middle

Trigger

The trigger can be controlled as follows:

Adjustable interval after engine start

http://gallery.mikrokopter.de/main.php/v/tech/Output1.jpg.html

  • set interval and fixed bit pattern
  • Here settings for Out2: fixed interval (30)
  • Flash patterns is active only when the motors run
  • /!\ Values below 6 and over 220 result in an static signal. If you need a blinking interval, please use values between 6-220

Using switches on the remote control

http://gallery.mikrokopter.de/main.php/v/tech/Output2.jpg.html

  • Select a potentiometer instead of the interval
  • Settings for this Out2: Poti4 assigned

See Koptertool

Schematic

Optocoupler

An optocoupler provides electrical isolation between flight control and camera.

It protects the camera against damage in case of faulty connection or overvoltage.

The optocoupler operates almost like a switch.

Building yourself without the set

If you want to build the cable yourself, it can also be realized without the LED

http://www.mikrocontroller.com/files/ShutterCable1.jpg

You would need:

  • A servo cable
  • A resistor (eg 330Ohm Reichelt: SMD1/4W 330)
  • An optocoupler (for example, Reichelt: LTV-356T SMD)
  • A jack (for example, Reichelt: KSS25)
  • A small piece of breadboard PCB (eg Reichelt: H25PR050)
